SAN FRANCISCO: MWW Group has opened a San Francisco office to service its share of the Sun Microsystems account it won earlier this year.

Joining the new office as VPs are Monica Sarkar, former director of corporate media relations at Hewlett-Packard, and Larry Yu, former manager of executive communications at Cisco Systems. Sarkar will manage the office.

MWW sought people with a diverse background and experience with corporate and executive communications, said president and CEO Michael Kempner.

"Our assignment for Sun is to help with their branding, and corporate and executive communications," he said. "We wanted people who matched Sun's culture and MWW's culture."

Kempner said while the office's main charge is to service the Sun account, he expects it to grow into a full-service operation, focusing on technology, corporate, consumer, and financial clients.

Kempner added that he is "bullish" on MWW in the Bay Area, and sees it as a strong region with numerous opportunities for the firm.

The office will initially have eight employees, with five to 10 more over the next year.
