BALTIMORE: Weber Shandwick has named William Atkinson, a former business columnist and reporter for the Baltimore Sun, as VP in its Baltimore office.

Given his business expertise, Atkinson will handle investor and financial relations, along with traditional media relations and crisis communications.

While at the Sun, Atkinson wrote a twice-weekly column on Maryland business. Prior to becoming a columnist, he worked as the newspaper's chief economics reporter, covering Wall Street issues and investment banking. Atkinson previously served as editor of the American Banker and as a reporter for the Washington Business Journal.

"Our business model is predicated on the ability to provide clients with access to seasoned, senior-level counselors who are experienced in working with CEOs and their boards," said Kevin O'Keefe, president of Weber Shandwick's Baltimore office. "Someone of Bill's accomplishments and reputation is not easily found."
