SAN FRANCISCO: Ogilvy PR has named Luca Penati as MD of the agency's global technology practice. Penati stepped down as EVP and GM of Edelman?s Silicon Valley office in August.
Penati replaces Stephen Jones, who left Ogilvy in May, shortly after the agency lost its share of the Sun Microsystems account.
Ogilvy has said the loss of Sun did not have any bearing on Jones' departure. Jones has since joined GolinHarris as an EVP in its Los Angeles office, leading the Nintendo account.
Penati said Ogilvy has a strong brand and a strong tech heritage. Though that heritage may have lost a bit of its luster, particularly after the Sun loss left the agency without a marquee tech client in the US, aside from LG Electronics.
"There is a really good group of people here, and they have great tech expertise," said Penati, who will report to Ogilvy CEO Marcia Silverman.
