CHICAGO: Information Resources, a packaged-goods market research

firm, is searching for a new VP of media relations.

The search began after the departure of former SVP Bob Bregenzer on Dec.

16. An 11-year veteran of the company, Bregenzer had been responsible

for media relations, internal communications and IR.

Wendy Love, SVP of corporate and marketing communications, said that the

company has already reassigned his IR and internal communications

activities, so the new hire will be responsible only for media

relations.

Information Resources is conducting its hunt without a search firm and

will almost certainly hire from outside its 10-person communications

staff.

’We need a real media relations pro,’ Love said.

Information Resources probably can’t fill the post quickly enough. Late

last month, it announced plans to cut 325 jobs this year in order to

save dollars 15 million in annual expenses. Love said the planned cuts

will not affect communications staffing.

Though the company does not employ an official PR agency of record, it

has worked with Golin/Harris regularly and uses other firms on a project

basis. Information Resources recorded net income of dollars 1.5 million

during the first three quarters of 1999.

Bregenzer portrayed his departure from the company as a mutual

agreement.

He had risen to his post under a prior regime, the CEO of which left

over a year ago. Bregenzer declined to discuss his plans, except to say

he will continue in PR in the Chicago area.
