CHICAGO: The Porter Novelli Convergence Group (PNCG) entered the

Chicago market in a big way last week, snapping up highly regarded tech

shop EBS Public Relations.

The acquisition of EBS, which generates roughly dollars 3 million a year

in PR revenues, boosts PN’s Chicago practice into the dollars 10 million

range.

The firm will now have roughly 90 employees in the city.

’We have all this pent-up demand in Chicago for tech public relations,’

said PN CEO Bob Druckenmiller. ’But before now, we couldn’t really

deliver.’

EBS founders Erica and Brian Swerdlow will become SVPs in the PNCG and

will run its Chicago operations. Gary Stockman, a PNCG senior partner,

said the agency views Chicago as the fourth largest US market for

hi-tech PR, and he expects PN to pick up business from technology

concerns as well as from traditional companies adding hi-tech elements

to their business model.

Druckenmiller was quick to add that PN won’t be buying other Chicago

firms, describing the EBS acquisition as a strategic move into tech PR

rather than a means of increasing its overall Chicago presence.
