DaimlerChrysler, a reliable supplier of PR gaffes since last year’s

mega-merger, did not fail to disappoint with its efforts to hype the

company’s Y2K readiness.

Trying to repair badly frayed relations with both the Detroit and

national media, the company broke with recent tradition and agreed to

keep all interested parties appraised of its Y2K comings and goings.

The problem? Daimler-Chrysler gave out an incorrect phone number for its

’Information Command Center,’ resulting in a silent New Year’s Eve for

the company and a rather annoying one for a White Lake, MI barber.

’I was really surprised when CNN called and wanted to know how Y2K was

going,’ said the barber’s wife.

For what it’s worth, the barber’s combs and scissors made the transition

into the new millennium without incident.
