WASHINGTON, DC: Claiming that she was pushed out of an effort to

bring the 2012 Olympics to the nation’s capital, DC PR pro Elizabeth

Ganzi has filed a dollars 10 million lawsuit against the US Olympic

Committee, the Washington-Baltimore Regional 2012 Coalition and a host

of local business leaders.

The suit, brought under the RICO Act, could hurt the city’s bid as well

as add another blemish to the Olympic reputation.

The Coalition, the official bid group for the area, was formed by

combining the Greater Washington Exploratory Committee (a group founded

by Ganzi in 1997) and Baltimore and Beyond. Ganzi claims to have been

pushed out when the USOC recognized the Coalition as the region’s

official bidder.

Ganzi, ’unemployed’ and ’bankrupt’ after personally guaranteeing many of

her group’s expenses, said local leaders such as Federal City Council

EVP Kenneth Sparks conspired with the USOC ’to wrest control of the

Greater Washington, DC-area bid’ from her. She claims that Sparks told

members, ’We need to let (Ganzi) dry up and die.’

Among Ganzi’s creditors are Cohn & Wolfe, which agreed to do PR on a pro

bono basis, billing only for ’hard costs.’

The Coalition declined comment, other than to label Ganzi’s suit as ’a

deliberate attempt to undercut the efforts of the 2012 Coalition (and)

to exact from the Coalition millions of dollars to which Plaintiffs

plainly have no right.’
