VENICE, CA: PR glamour gal Lynne Franks, best known as the

inspiration for the character of Edina on the British sitcom Absolutely

Fabulous, is back in the big time.

Franks, who left Britain and the PR profession after selling her

eponymous firm, is set to launch branch offices of her agency in New

York and the UK. The firm, Global Fusion, has been live in Venice, CA

for over a year.

Global Fusion’s expansion has already seen the opening of a San

Francisco outpost, and its upcoming London launch was spurred by the

recent win of what Franks called a ’huge US dot-com client’ that has its

sights set on Europe.

Commenting on her return to PR and the UK scene, Franks said, ’I missed

the creative energy. I had always thought it was possible to run a

global communications business from the west coast.’

Franks made her name in Britain by creating events (London Fashion Week)

and playing a pivotal role in launching the careers of the Spice

Girls.

She eventually sold the agency for approximately dollars 9 million.

After changing its name to Life PR, it was bought by Ketchum in 1998.
