boutique to help raise the profile of its web site.

The cable channel’s in-house PR team is looking for a firm with both

hi-tech and entertainment expertise. VP of corporate relations Karen

Nelson would not disclose a budget figure, saying only that the fee

would depend on the candidate’s quality and experience.

Nelson said the PR push is due to the site’s planned expansion of

original content. Increasing site traffic is the key goal of the

profile-raising effort.

In other Comedy Central marketing news, the channel has finally hired a

West Coast PR director, Diana Greenberg, after an extensive search.

Greenberg was previously a publicist on Martin Short’s syndicated talk

show.

Comedy Central is one of a handful of cable networks attempting to

heighten its web presence. MTV recently recruited three in-house

staffers to publicize its web output. Parent company Viacom reportedly

is looking to spin off the interactive unit in the near future.
