giant Medialink took a big step towards broadening its service offerings

last week by acquiring US Newswire, a leading distributor of news

releases for the public affairs and government relations sectors.

USN co-founder and president Bill McCarren painted the deal as a

convergence of the worlds of print and video. ’Video was once distant

from text and data, but these worlds are converging,’ he said. ’By

working with Medialink, we’ll be better positioned to offer clients

everything they want.’

Under the terms of the deal, USN becomes a division of Medialink, and

McCarren and USN EVP Mark Bagley become Medialink VPs.

The move comes at a time when Medialink is instituting new services that

closely match those offered by USN. Newstream.com, a joint venture with

Business Wire, provides clients with the ability to pair text news with

streaming audio and video. Another service, NewsIQ, enables clients to

ascertain the content of TV news broadcasts in key markets.

Both companies were founded in 1986.
