University of Georgia’s Henry W. Grady College of Journalism and Mass

Communications to create a PR writing laboratory.

The donation, bolstered by funds from the Georgia lottery, helped build

a facility intended to help students develop skills needed in today’s

competitive PR marketplace.

’I think the PR industry is missing an opportunity to support its

entry-level job candidates,’ said firm COO Jenny Duffey. ’We lose a lot

of bright students to law school because they don’t get the

opportunities to develop their abilities.’

University of South Alabama communications professor Donald Wright and

other educators hope that the Duffey donation will set a benchmark that

more practitioners will follow.

’Unfortunately, practitioners haven’t supported PR education the same

way journalists or lawyers support programs in their fields,’ Wright

said.
