Sullivan has been lured away from his post as communications VP for the

National Basketball Association’s Dallas Mavericks to serve as

communications VP for NBC Sports. Starting next week, he will take over

publicity for the New York-based broadcasting division.

Leading a four-person staff, Sullivan will plan communication strategies

and work to raise awareness of the network’s sports programming. The

post will also entail involvement with web site development and new

business ventures.

Sullivan replaces Ed Markey, who left the network in November to take a

job with the NBA’s Cleveland Cavaliers. Sullivan will report to Kassie

Canter, NBC’s SVP of corporate communications, and work closely with NBC

Sports chairman Dick Ebersol and president Ken Schanzer.

Sullivan joined the Mavericks as a PR assistant in 1980 - before the

newly franchised team even hit the court.

In December 1998, the Mavericks loaned him out to serve as chief

spokesperson for Dallas’ efforts to nab the 2012 Olympic games. Attorney

Michael Sorrel will handle Sullivan’s duties on an interim basis until a

new unpaid PR executive can be recruited.
