and laid off 1,400 employees last fall, has finally hired an agency to

handle a sizeable chunk of its corporate computer division.

The Santa Clara, CA-based Walt & Company landed the PR business for NEC

Computers, which sells four separate product lines - the Versa notebook,

PowerMate desktop computers, Express5800 servers and MobilePro hand-held

PCs - to the North American corporate market.

The value of the account, which was previously handled in-house, was not

disclosed. However, Walt & Company principal Bob Walt said that it is ’a

sizeable piece of business.’

According to NEC senior PR manager Beth Makosey, Walt made the cut over

other firms because of its breadth of experience.
