NEW YORK: The Magazine Publishers of America are looking for a PR

agency to spearhead a dollars 10 million integrated campaign designed to

fend off a proposed postal rate increase.

The industry association, which represents 1,200 titles, has had

preliminary talks with Hill & Knowlton and most of the other DC-based

heavy hitters, which are anxiously awaiting the official issuance of a

RFP.

’We’ve had agencies working for us before, but this PR component is new

ground in terms of scope,’ said MPA EVP Jim Cregan. ’One of the tasks is

to get the public interested along with Congress.’

Cregan said the MPA’s board has yet to determine the precise amount to

be spent on PR. However, the dollars 10 million war chest will be spent

over the next three years and will include other marketing components.

Cregan added that it was likely the MPA would not hire an ad agency

until after PR arrangements have been finalized.

The MPA should make its agency choice within the next month.
