CHICAGO: Joe Dragonette, a well-respected leader in the Chicago business community, died February 18 at the age of 63 from complications related to multiple sclerosis. After 20 years at Edelman, including 10 as president of its flagship Windy City office, Dragonette launched his own firm in 1983. NEW YORK: TD Waterhouse Group has hired Jill Totenberg as SVP, public

affairs. Previously, all communications duties were handled on an ad-hoc

basis by junior members of the company.





WHITE PLAINS, NY: Internet PR veteran Elizabeth Hausman, a former New

York City-based PR manager for Yahoo!, has joined WorldSpy as director

of PR, a newly created position. Prior to her arrival at WorldSpy,

Hausman assisted with the launch of several Yahoo! marketing programs

and promoted Permission Marketing, the best-selling book by Yahoo!

direct marketing guru Seth Godin.





NEW YORK: Ruder Finn has snared George Drucker away from Edelman to

serve as EVP of branding, a new post. He will work closely with Ruder

Finn/Americas president Amy Binder, a longtime professional

colleague.





ROSEMEAD, CA: Southern California Edison has promoted 25-year industry

veteran Clarence Brown to the post of director of corporate

communications. He was previously the utility’s senior manager of

external communications.





NEW YORK: RLM Public Relations has picked up dollars 1.5 million from

nine new Internet clients. The work includes Los Angeles-based eCandy,

which chose RLM over Ketchum and Edelman; and three wireless clients -

Shadowpack, The Thinking Media Corporation and Quixi.





BELLEVUE, WA: Robert Kucharavy has been appointed EVP and MD of

Shandwick/Seattle. He was previously a corporate PR manager at Digital

Equipment Corp.





BATON ROUGE, LA: Sports PR pioneer Paul Manasseh died earlier this month

at the age of 79. A longtime sports information director at LSU (his

alma mater), Manasseh was among the first to use highlight films to

publicize his team.





NEW YORK: Middleberg + Associates has won four new accounts worth

dollars 1.2 million: The Children’s Television Workshop Online,

Greenpeace’s Anti-Whaling Campaign, MercadoLibre and

eCommercial.com.





SAN FRANCISCO: Bluelight.com, Kmart’s recently announced e-commerce

venture, has snapped up former Access Communications VP Dave Karraker as

director of corporate communications. He was one of the key agency-side

execs behind Sega Dreamcast’s launch last fall.
