After months of soul-searching, Ask Jeeves has dropped its plan to

spin off its sex-related answers to a separate site.

The Q&A Web directory did not want to ditch the kinky stuff, citing

strong demand for sex-related answers. But not separating adult queries

(’How do I satisfy my foot fetish?’) from more banal ones (’How do I

cure athlete’s feet?’) risked its wholesome brand.

One option was a sex-savvy counterpart named Mimi, so the company

registered Mimi-related domain names to keep them safe from

cybersquatters. But in the end, the company decided against the

site.

’(Mimi’s) going to stay among the shelves of domain names that won’t be

used,’ said Ted Briscoe, SVP and GM of Ask Jeeves’ consumer service.

Poor Mimi - and she was so excited about coming out of the closet.
