WASHINGTON, DC: Following failed attempts to acquire a PR firm, MultiMedia Holdings has tapped former Ruder Finn/DC managing partner Geoff Littlehale to establish a PR practice for the growing communications conglomerate.

MMH had been in talks to acquire a Boston-based PR firm with a DC presence - rumored to be FitzGerald Communications - but a deal was never consummated.

Though MMH execs declined to reveal the agency, they said the company is close to acquiring communications companies in Atlanta and Boston.

Littlehale's 18-month Ruder Finn tenure, during which he oversaw the firm's DC operations, ended somewhat bitterly. He described his role there as 'a football coach hired to run a basketball team,' adding, 'I believed the mandate was to build a substantial DC practice, but the company was either unwilling or unprepared to make the changes we needed.'

So far, MMH's PR office consists of Littlehale alone, but he is in the process of hiring staff and hopes to have 15 to 20 people on board by the end of the year. Littlehale brought client Alltech.com, which he handled on a freelance basis, with him to MMH.
