Cook prez leaves to open own firm

ARLINGTON, TX: Former Cook Public Relations president Larry Sonis has gone west to Texas, departing the Jacksonville firm to hang his own shingle in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

ARLINGTON, TX: Former Cook Public Relations president Larry Sonis has gone west to Texas, departing the Jacksonville firm to hang his own shingle in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

Sonis will continue to work with Cook PR's parent company, Cook Marketing Communications, in a 'loose strategic partnership,' according to CMC president Mike Russell. The Florida firm will provide marketing support for Sonis, who in turn plans to seek out new business in Texas for CMC.

Sonis said his move was motivated by a desire to return to PR consulting in a large market and by personal attachments in the Dallas area. National clients Sonis served at Cook included Continental Airlines in Houston and Winn-Dixie Stores, a Jacksonville-based grocery chain with a large Texas presence.

A former West Virginia state legislator and congressional press secretary, Sonis ran his own public affairs firm in Tallahassee, FL before joining Cook in 1993.
