LONDON: The Phoenix consortium has brought Ludgate Communications

on board to assist with its last-ditch attempt to buy BMW’s troubled UK

arm, Rover.

As talks broke down 10 days ago, Ludgate was brought in to handle press

and broadcasting inquiries, as well as to control access to Phoenix head

John Towers, finance director Peter Beale and special projects director

Nick Stephenson.

BMW has set a May 31 deadline for concluding a purchase of Rover, known

as ’the English Patient’ to its German parent company after losing more

than dollars 3.1 million per day.

The Phoenix bid is supported by most major trade unions, since the

company has pledged to maintain volume car production and limit job

losses. BMW will reportedly dismantle the site and lay off as many as

11,000 workers if the deal falls through.
