SAN FRANCISCO: The Horn Group, which specializes in ’e-PR’ for

hi-tech businesses, last week became the latest West Coast agency to add

financial communications to its slate of offerings.

Scott Wilson, an IR and financial PR veteran with 15 years of experience

at companies such as Wells Fargo Bank, will lead the new practice, which

is designed to help Horn clients build relationships and raise

visibility within the investment community.

Given the IPO dreams of most Internet start-ups, it is no surprise that

highly regarded tech shops are adding IR and financial PR to their

arsenal.

’There is more demand for these services as an ongoing component of the

PR program, not just drive-by IR,’ said Alexander Ogilvy West Coast EVP

Holland Carney. ’You can’t even think of establishing a brand anymore

without considering financial relations, especially since business news

is reaching a broader audience than ever before.’

FitzGerald Communications and GCI are among the other firms on the verge

of hiring board new senior-level IR execs.

Wilson said his mission at the Horn Group is to give IR and financial PR

efforts the full-time attention they demand. ’Up until now, most

agencies have tended to just move PR people into IR,’ he said. ’Very few

have offered IR as a stand-alone expertise that is fully integrated with

the PR effort.’

Prior to his arrival at the Horn Group, Wilson spent about six months as

director of IR for LookSmart, a Web navigation and search infrastructure

company. Before that, he served as VP and director of Edelman’s West

Coast IR practice.
