DIARY: Who says pets can’t drive? PR firm proves otherwise

Unleash the hounds! No, it’s not The Simpsons’ Mr. Burns attempting to scare away girl scouts - it’s the folks at Colle & McVoy Public Relations, who have decided to unleash a hound and a cat for client Pfizer Animal Health.

A mechanical dog and cat are part of the Revolution Mobile, a customized

25-foot-long truck created to publicize Pfizer’s new Revolution

medication.

The plan calls for driving the truck to 20 dog- and cat-related events

across the country, starting in New York City.

The vehicle will have a vet on board to answer animal health questions

and will serve as ground zero for an ersatz game show, during which

T-shirts and other freebies will be given away.

The goal of the Pet Trek 2000 tour, according to Colle & McVoy account

manager Jason Schumann, is to create consumer buzz for the product,

prompting people to request it from their vets (it’s not available over

the counter).

While the plan seems a bit out there for the normally buttoned-down

world of animal medications, Pfizer seems willing to play along. ’(Colle

& McVoy) are terrific at creating unique ideas,’ says Denise Ulrich,

marketing communications manager for the companion animals division of

Pfizer Animal Health.

Saying that to a PR account manager is like giving your dog a pat on the

tummy. Good boy. Good PR team. Here’s a biscuit and a three-year

retainer.
