SAN FRANCISCO: ZDTV, a 24-hour cable and online network dedicated

to technology news and programming, has selected Porter Novelli as its

new PR agency of record.

The company, which was acquired from Ziff-Davis by Paul Allen’s Vulcan

Ventures in January, selected PN in a competitive pitch involving six

agencies, including Neale-May Partners and Horizon Communications.

According to ZDTV director of PR and communications Cameron Brown, the

account budget is close to dollars 500,000.

’Porter Novelli has the bandwidth and senior people to help us ramp up,’

Brown said.

Launched in 1997, ZDTV has worked with several different PR firms over

the past four years, including Alexander Ogilvy, which supported the

network’s debut. Most recently, the company had been using LA-based SSA

for projects.

The ZDTV win is the second major recent addition for PN/SF’s consumer

tech group. PlanetWeb, which develops software for Internet appliances,

hired PN as its first agency of record last week. No figures were

released on the value of the account.
