NEW YORK: Heavily hyped media Web site Inside.com has taken the

spin out of Spin, hiring Jason Roth away from the music magazine to

serve as its first in-house PR chief.

Roth joins the site, scheduled to launch in a few days, as director of

communications. At Spin, Roth held the title of director of PR and did

corporate PR work for its parent company, Miller Publishing.

’One of the things that attracted me to this job is that it is outside

traditional PR,’ Roth said. ’I get to create the job.’

In additional to traditional PR functions, Roth’s responsibilities at

Inside.com will likely include IR, branding and syndication of the

site’s content. Roth will also review the site’s relationship with

outside PR firms. Inside.com currently employs the Susan Magrino Agency,

which has generated plenty of high-profile pre-launch coverage,

including a Newsweek feature.

The site, run by former New York and Spy editor Kurt Andersen and former

Spin editor Michael Hirschorn (who hired Roth), is attempting to

position itself as a true media insider. A site ’sneak preview’ up last

week included articles about the future of MP3.com and the Dr. Laura

furor.
