ISTANBUL: Hoping to bolster its presence in a burgeoning market,

McDonald’s/Turkey has hired Serap Gokcebay as communications and PR

manager and has launched a search for an external agency.

Gokcebay, who joined McDonald’s last week, was previously PR manager at

car maker Opel Turkey. Before his arrival, the fast food behemoth’s

local corporate communications were handled by a marketing team with

minimal PR experience. Gokcebay plans to develop and expand the

marketing division’s dedicated PR unit.

McDonald’s/Turkey worked with its previous local agency,

Burson-Marsteller’s Turkish affiliate, Capitol Halkla Iliskiler, until

late last year. Capitol’s assignment ended in December, and the agency

was acquired by the WPP Group three months later.
