file: last Saturday, apparently, was the 40th anniversary of St.

Bernardino of Siena being named the patron saint of public relations

workers.

Alas, the milestone wasn’t covered by too many national media

outlets.

And there wasn’t any kind of lavish celebration or parades with floats

commemorating publicity mavens like St. Bernardino (’Bernie’ to his

friends) and P.T. Barnum. Frankly, we found out about it from a

’politically correct 1998’ desk calendar.

What this means, we suppose, is that the Vatican needs a better

publicist.
