SILVER SPRING, MD: Hoping to take advantage of the rich hi-tech

climate in and around the nation’s capital, the Strategic Communications

Group (SCG) and the Investor Communications Company (ICC) have inked a

formal strategic alliance.

According to SCG president Marc Hausman, working with pre-IPO clients in

the region requires significant IR and financial communications

expertise, which the ICC offers in spades. ’If we didn’t have the

ability to meet their IR needs, my clients would start taking a look at

other agencies in New York, Boston or Silicon Valley, and I would lose

those clients.’

Michael Hartman, managing director of the Paladin Companies, an SGC

client, agrees: ’There has been a large increase in the number of public

companies in the DC area over the last five years, but there has not

been a commensurate increase in the number of qualified IR pros.’

To address its IR deficiencies, SGC instituted a search for a local IR

firm months ago, but initially came up empty. ’When it comes to IR, few

people really get it,’ Hausman said. However, a chance meeting with ICC

president Mark Elenowitz, an old college chum, led to the alliance.

To ensure coordination of the new arrangement, SGC has hired James

Michael McManus, previously a financial analyst with Washington Gas’

IR/strategy unit, to handle financial analyst relations. He is expected

to work closely with ICC VP for IR Michael Savage.
