WASHINGTON, DC: Faith In Action, a mammoth charitable effort funded

by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, has handed its seven-year,

dollars 1.6 million-per-year PR account to Porter Novelli’s DC

office.

PN bested four finalists - the DC offices of Fleishman-Hillard and

Ketchum, Cone, and Nelson PR in New York - for the account.

According to director of communications Larry Weisberg, the goal of the

PR campaign is to encourage volunteers to join Faith in Action, which

aids homebound people by driving them to doctor’s appointment or reading

to them. Among the groups that Faith in Action attempts to help are AIDS

and diabetes sufferers and those with advanced visual impairment.

The PR push is designed to expand the program’s reach beyond its current

1,100 local coalitions, as well as to motivate under-represented

organizations - specifically, more religious, racial and rural

coalitions - to join the charitable effort.

Among the possible PR solutions being looked at by Faith in Action is a

name change.
