NEW YORK: In the wake of its decision to bring its licensing and

merchandising activities in-house, the BBC’s American sales operation

has switched PR agencies.

The BBC has parted company with Jane Ayer PR in Los Angeles and handed

an expanded brief to Marina Maher Communications (MMC). The account is

estimated to be worth around dollars 500,000 annually.

SVP of marketing and consumer products Bill Gaden said the appointment

underlined the BBC’s desire to create greater brand awareness of its

merchandise.

’We were impressed by their creativity,’ he said. ’They brought a

three-foot dinosaur egg into the pitch to show how they could get

attention.

They had passion and tenacity, and called us throughout the process if

they saw something that might be useful.’

MMC triumphed over Manning, Selvage & Lee, Bender-Helper Impact and

Stanton Crenshaw for the account.
