COLOGNE, GERMANY: Amid rumors of internal strife, Ford has shifted

its top German PR pro, Dr. Suzanne Wegerhoff, to a trans-European

post.

Wegerhoff, formerly director of communications and public affairs for

Ford-Werke AG (the company’s German subsidiary) becomes director of

communications and public affairs for the Central and Eastern Region of

Ford/Europe.

Wegerhoff, 43, had held Ford’s top German PR post - which included a

seat on the firm’s board of management - since November 1997. However, a

report in German newspaper Suddeutsche Zeitung said she was being forced

out because she ’rubbed the (Ford-Werke) board the wrong way on several

occasions and is well known for voicing her opinions.’

The newspaper added that sales of Ford products, as well as those of

GM’s Opel, were not up to expectations and noted that Opel’s top PR exec

had recently left the company. ’It seems to fit the businesses’ strategy

to make the PR officers responsible for the firms’ bad images,’the paper

opined.

No successor for Wegerhoff has been named.
