IRVINE, CA: Ford suffered another high-level PR defection last week

when Tom Mattia, director of communications for the company’s

Lincoln-Mercury Division, submitted his resignation, effective August 1.

He will join EDS, the General Motors-owned electronic business

subsidiary, in a ’corporate officer’ capacity.

Mattia was a fairly recent recruit to Ford and the auto business. He

joined the company after being lured away from IBM by then-VP of public

affairs David Scott.

In a memo sent to Ford staffers last Wednesday, VP of communications

Jason Vines wrote, ’Tom has made significant contributions to our

organization ... I wish him and his family the best of luck.’

Ford and EDS execs did not return calls for comment.
