For first time, Chrysler building may house DaimlerChrysler staff

NEW YORK: A small contingent of DaimlerChrysler PR people may soon be moving into Manhattan’s fabled Chrysler Building - which would mark the first time anyone from Chrysler has worked in the building that bears its name.

Steve Rossi, VP of global communications for Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge,

confirmed that the automaker is considering renting space in the

building and that the company may send one or two IR pros to New York in

order to forge better contacts with the investment community.

Moving IR people to NYC could help DaimlerChrysler resuscitate its image

with Wall Street analysts. The company’s stock was booted from the

Standard & Poor 500 index after the merger because it was no longer

considered an American company, which promptly spurred a wave of

selling. Moving into its namesake building would likely garner positive

press and demonstrate the merged company’s commitment to remaining a

major player in the US.

Detroit newspapers reported that DaimlerChrysler may spend dollars 100

per square foot to lease the top five floors of the building and an

additional dollars 5 million for renovations.
