LOS ANGELES: Emap USA, which owns FHM and Motor Trend, has taken

the unusual step of hiring a small entertainment practice to help it

achieve brand recognition in the US.

Emap, a British-based media company which acquired Petersen Publications

last year and renamed it Emap USA, has hired LA-based SSA to replace the

Susan Magrino Agency.

Stacey Lippman, Emap president of corporate sales and marketing, said

the renewed PR push is designed to establish the Emap brand in the

US.

’Susan (Magrino) is a top pro, but we changed our name and our ownership

and we wanted a new direction,’ he explained. ’Emap is not a well-known

name and we want to help broaden it here.’

SSA was chosen in part for its flexibility in terms of the length of the

contract, estimated to be worth around dollars 100,000 per year.

According to Lippman, the agency was prepared to work on a

month-by-month basis.
