We’ve all heard how important the right hair color is to female PR pros. But now the boys are getting in on the act.

We’ve all heard how important the right hair color is to female PR

pros. But now the boys are getting in on the act.

Dave Wieme of DC-based Wave Public Relations recently traded in his

brunette locks for the platinum shade favored by Billy on Ally McBeal.

Was the move designed to turn heads? Sure. But Wieme’s true motivation

had less to do with self image than with client service. The new look

came about as part of his effort to hype The Kindest Cut in Springfield,

VA, a salon run by friend and client LeeAnn Nelbach.

’I woke up and passed by the mirror, and I didn’t recognize myself,’

Wieme quipped. ’The first day I was blond, we had a client meeting and

they were like, ’Uh, hello.’’

Now that he’s joined the ranks of the bottle blondes, Wieme said he has

a new appreciation of the efforts involved in being a woman. ’Now that

my roots are showing through, I certainly have a new empathy,’ he

says.

Ironically, Wieme made the hair switch just as his agency decided to

trade in the beauty business for sports. Will the new coloring play well

with the jock set? Stay tuned.
