ANN ARBOR, MI: Anxious to grab more auto industry business,

Fleishman-Hillard has cemented an exclusive partnership with consultant

David Cole.

Cole, currently director of the Office for the Study of Automotive

Transportation at the University of Michigan, has been tapped to provide

communications-related counsel for Fleishman’s clients in the automotive

sector.

Having Cole on board will almost certainly enhance Fleishman’s stature

in the close-knit auto world. He sits on the board of five automotive

suppliers and is a confidant of top industry figures such as Ford CEO

Jac Nasser.

’This will be a shot of adrenaline in pursuing auto business,’ said

Fleishman SVP and Chicago office chief Bob McEwen.

Cole and McEwen have known each other since McEwen’s tenure as head of

Shandwick’s Detroit office, where Cole did similar consulting work.

’I really want to emphasize the relationship with Bob. We have similar

views on the role of PR in the auto business,’ Cole said.

Formally joining forces with Cole is yet another coup for McEwen. Since

Fleishman lured him to Chicago from Detroit in early 1999, the firm’s

Chicago office has seen revenues climb from dollars 5.2 million in ’98

to dollars 6.7 million last year and an estimated dollars 12 million

this year.
