NEW YORK: A b-to-b online marketplace headed by seven major

airlines has handed its dollars 1 million PR account to

Burson-Marsteller.

The as-yet-unnamed company chose Burson over Fleishman-Hillard, Hill &

Knowlton and Ogilvy. Burson pitched with sister branding consultancy

Landor Associates, which will come up with a company name before its

fourth-quarter launch.

The new venture is designed to link carriers with suppliers of

airline-related goods and services, such as fuel, catering and engine

components.

The seven member airlines - American, Delta, United, Continental,

British Airways, Air France and Iberia - spend dollars 32 billion on

these services annually.

Burson’s DC office will handle the account, with MD Richard Mintz

heading a five-person team. ’Right now we’re making the marketplace

aware that they exist,’ Mintz said.

American Airlines is a major client of Burson’s, and the agency also

handles US marketing for Quantas.
