WASHINGTON, DC: Hoping to intensify its focus on emerging tech businesses and expand its PR practice, Infotech Strategies has tapped John Raffetto as an SVP.

Raffetto was previously a principal and member of the board of advisors at Podesta.com, a lobbying and PR firm run by Tony Podesta (the brother of White House chief of staff John Podesta). At Infotech, Raffetto effectively replaces Mary Hanley, now associate director for communications at the White House Council on Environmental Quality.

Before his Podesta.com tenure, Raffetto served two stints in the office of senator Ted Stevens. During the second, he was communications director for the Senate Appropriations Committee chaired by Stevens.

Raffetto said that the motivation behind his move to Infotech was the technology boom climate in the DC region.

'The reason I took this job was its exclusive focus on technology,' he explained. 'In the Washington, DC area, the tech industry has matured to the point where it truly understands the value of good, strategic PR campaigns. Companies are beginning to seek out PR assistance the way companies in Silicon Valley did a few years ago.'

Among the clients Raffetto will be working with are Slam Dunk Networks, which helps businesses track Internet transactions, and online direct response marketing firm Corporate Extensions.
