Alan Brown, former Transmedia VP of integrated marketing, had tried to negotiate an alliance between his firm and e-marketing outfit Beyondmedia.com this June.

When Transmedia chairman Thomas Madden decided against the idea, Brown jumped ship and established a new PR presence in Florida for the Philadelphia-based firm.

Brown, now Beyondmedia.com's VP integrated marketing, said: 'They saw what was going on at Transmedia and decided PR was a missing component.'

'We did have a PR presence,' said Beyondmedia.com president Frank Fiascki, 'but it was not an expertise.'

The company has billings of around dollars 6 million a year and employs about 40 people to work on media programs for the likes of pharmaceuticals giant Smith Kline Beecham. Fiascki says BeyondMedia.com is also looking to hire people in New York and Los Angeles.

Brown is currently looking for new account staff and is working on PR programs for health firm Impacthealth.com and Quititnow.com, a stopping smoking advice site.

Transmedia's Madden said: 'We looked at ways we could work together, but we get plenty of work, and I just didn't think we needed their assistance.'

Brown's former role is now being filled by a number of other Transmedia staff.

Separately, Transmedia has picked up two new dot-com start-ups. The first is thebigchance.com, a site for aspiring film creatives, and yourigloo.com, an online real estate firm.

Transmedia is the first agency for both the new firms.
