LOS ANGELES: Veteran corporate communications pro Don Spetner, who left a VP post with SunAmerica earlier this year, has signed on with Korn/Ferry International as SVP of global marketing and communications.

In his new LA-based position, Spetner will oversee all PR, brand advertising and employee communications for the well-known executive search consultancy.

Korn/Ferry's IR will still be handled separately.

Spetner's predecessor in the position, Mike Smith, returned to his previous job in marketing with The Wall Street Journal. However, Spetner explained that his role has been greatly expanded beyond what Smith had been doing.

'Korn/Ferry went public about a year ago, and in the past year there has been a renewed emphasis on the brand and ... on the corporate image,' said Spetner, who will report directly to CEO Windle Priem.

Spetner, who left SunAmerica May 15, said he originally planned to pursue other career options, including the venture capital business.

'But I found out that being a VC is a tough way to make a living and not for me,' he explained. 'I also thought about consulting, but I am only 40 and that didn't seem right.'

Ironically, Korn/Ferry managing director Robert Woodrum, who had recruited Spetner for SunAmerica three years ago, was the headhunter responsible for reeling him in.
