Cobra, which only selected H&K to handle PR last year, decided it needed an agency with a wider international reach and especially with more PR resources in Europe, said Antonia Madunic, director of marketing services for the Chicago maker of citizens' band radios, car radar detectors and hand-held two-way radios.

'We have grown our business significantly,' Madunic said of her decision to find a new PR agency. The company had been using a series of boutique shops across Europe but found that arrangement cumbersome. Madunic also wanted an agency with a Chicago presence because in the past she found it difficult to work with a New York agency. 'I really needed a local office to better coordinate various projects,' she said.

Fleishman plans to have a staffer in its London office to oversee Cobra affairs in Europe and is targeting such countries as German, France and Spain for PR work. 'Initially our focus will be media relations,' said Jill Monahan, managing supervisor at Fleishman. Six staffers in the agency's Chicago office also will work on the account.
