WASHINGTON, DC: The PR agency which until a few weeks ago was handling Firestone is to launch a campaign for the Rubber Tire Manufacturers Association - telling consumers to look after their tires.

WASHINGTON, DC: The PR agency which until a few weeks ago was handling Firestone is to launch a campaign for the Rubber Tire Manufacturers Association - telling consumers to look after their tires.

Although the association hired Fleishman-Hillard before the current Firestone crisis, the campaign has now been brought forward.

Henry Hubbard, an SVP and partner in Fleishman's DC outpost, said the agency won the account in July, with a kick-off scheduled for October 1 to coincide with RTMA's new fiscal year.

The association advanced the campaign's start as the tire recall effort gained national exposure.

'The core message is to pay attention to your tires,' said Hubbard. 'We want consumers to understand this is a hi-tech, highly engineered product that needs some attention.'
