NEW YORK: Donna Karan Home has hired Clifford PR to handle public relations for its first collection, which will debut in 2001.

The household line will comprise two brands, Donna Karan New York Home Collection and DKNY Life. This is Karan's first comprehensive foray into bedroom and bathroom furnishings. Previously, her domestic designs were restricted to high-end items like vases and aromatherapy kits.

Selected press members will get a preview of the collection at a party on September 22. Clifford is managing the small event, which is being held in conjunction with New York Fashion Week.

Consumers won't be able to buy Karan's home designs until next Spring, but Clifford's advance work will begin soon.

'We'll have a comprehensive media outreach campaign,' said Celanie Fresh, SAE with Clifford who is working on the account. 'We will probably hold a spring event. In the meantime it's going to be a lot of one-on-one interviews and media tours,' she said.

Mike Clifford, president and CEO of Clifford said the Donna Karan relationship is 'symbolically a very big account for us,' declining to give any specific fee income details. '(She) is making a major commitment to it, launching a fully evolved collection from day one,' he said.

Clifford PR has experience in home furnishings, with a team specifically dedicated to design headed by Julia Gillespie, VP.

The agency also has added other new clients, including 7thOnline.com, a fashion industry Web site that connects vendors with retailers, and The Big Apple Circus.
