Covisint isn't saying how much it will spend on PR or on its new advertising program through Young & Rubicam, but the tech shop normally asks for a minimum dollars 40,000-a-month retainer.

Dan Jankowski, head of Covisint's communications team, actually works for Manning, Selvage & Lee, but is handling PR at Covisint as part of his MSL assignment with General Motors, a Covisint owner, along with Ford, DaimlerChrysler and Renault/Nissan.

Picking an agency none of its automaker-owners worked with 'was another way to signal the independence' of Covisint, Jankowski said.
