NEW YORK: Burson-Marsteller has scooped the account for Sony's consumer electronics group, beating out Ogilvy PR in a head-to-head and taking over from Mindstorm Communications, the company's current agency of record.

Burson will officially take over the business at the end of January.

'Overall, Mindstorm has done a very good job for Sony,' said company spokesperson Brian Levine, who declined to specify why the switch was made.

Tracey Pontarelli will head up the bi-coastal account for Burson, which will be managed from New York but maintain a big presence in Los Angeles.

Levine said Burson's experience dealing with major brands and media relations capabilities swayed the decision towards the agency.

In preparing the pitch, Pontarelli set up an Intranet sight to demonstrate the agency's capabilities, and anticipates using the site as a continuing communications tool with the company.
