Avis' long-vacant PR exec post filled

GARDEN CITY, NY: Car rental and fleet management company Avis Group Holdings has filled a long-vacant position with the hiring of David Fluhrer as VP of Corporate Communications.

GARDEN CITY, NY: Car rental and fleet management company Avis Group Holdings has filled a long-vacant position with the hiring of David Fluhrer as VP of Corporate Communications.

Fluhrer will direct a staff of three covering strategic positioning, PR, employee communications and charitable contributions. He will report to Kevin M. Sheehan, Avis' president of corporate and business affairs.

Fluhrer comes to Avis from Medscape, a provider of online medical records and medical information, where he was VP of PR.

Prior to Medscape, Fluhrer, who started his career as a reporter with New York Newsday, headed corporate communications departments at Viacom, Integrated Resources and Olsten. He has also held senior PR positions at Newsweek, Celanese and the Readers Digest Association.

Avis operates Avis Rent-a-Car, the world's second-largest car rental business, PPH Vehicle Management Services, the world's second-largest fleet management and leasing company, and Wright Express, the largest fleet car provider. It operates in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Europe and Latin American.
