Chicago-based Veritel has never had a PR agency of record in its seven-year history. It spent those years undertaking research and development on voice verification, but is now ready to market its products and needs to establish an identity beyond the technology marketplace, said Stefanie Schodrof, Veritel's manager of PR and advertising. PR will be the main vehicle it uses to build market recognition, she added.

RF's Chicago operation will handle media and analyst relations as well as secure speaking opportunities for client executives, said Casy Jones, B-to-B/e-commerce practice leader with RF Chicago. The agency will also work on educational efforts to explain the Veritel's offerings. A four-person team will work on the account.

Ketchum, Porter Novelli, Chicago tech shop Buzz MSP, and several smaller firms were considered for the assignment, but RF won because Schodrof was impressed with work the agency had done for other emerging hi-tech clients.

Past work from RF's Chicago office showed that its emerging tech team 'knows how to cross that chasm from a few innovators to the mass market,' said Schodrof.
