PR HELP: Cadbury gobbles up RC Cola, but may spit out the company's outside

Cadbury, a division of British-based Cadbury-Schweppes, has announced that it's moving RC corporate staff from its former headquarters in White Plains, NY, to the Plano, TX offices of its Dr Pepper/Seven Up brands.

Previously, RC didn't have an internal PR staff. It worked with outside agencies such as Patrice Tanaka & Co. and The Marketing Continuum, which reported to RC's head of marketing.

PR for RC will now be handled by the 17-person Cadbury corporate communications staff in Texas, said Philippa Dworkin, VP corporate communications for Cadbury North America. Three of the staff handle PR while others work on consumer relations, employee communications and community relations.

RC sister brand Snapple, also bought by Cadbury, has worked with the PR arm of its ad agency, Deutsch, in New York. Snapple employees are remaining in White Plains.

Cadbury does not have a PR agency of record, choosing instead to use agencies on a project basis, Dworkin said.

In a statement at the time of the acquisition, John Brock, Cadbury-Schweppes COO, said: 'We are communicating as much information to employees as quickly, efficiently and effectively as possible, because these people are the ones who have worked so hard to make these brands and companies so successful.'
