LOS ANGELES: FitzGerald Communications, one of the last remaining mid-sized hi-tech independents, has opened a Los Angeles office and former Rogers & Cowan hotshot Christine La Monte is at the helm.

La Monte, who left Rogers & Cowan in July, spent five and a half years as an executive VP with the entertainment PR powerhouse overseeing the firm's Motion Pictures division. In her new position with FitzGerald, La Monte will head up a team of employees servicing existing LA-based clients such as Software.com, eConnections and Archive. She will also work to extend the agency's offering into the growing digital entertainment field.

La Monte's appointment reunites her with CEO Maura FitzGerald. While they have never worked together, the two were roommates in the 1970s.

Fitzgerald explained that opening a Southern California branch made sense because of the myriad business opportunities there. 'The Internet,' she said, 'has reinvigorated the local economy, bringing together in one place a blend of technology, content and distribution expertise.'
