AUBURN HILLS, MI: In the wake of financial losses and a plummeting stock price, DaimlerChrysler continues its purge of Chrysler Group's senior management, abruptly replacing communications VP Tony Cervone with Ken Levy last week. The well-regarded Cervone had been on the job for less than three months.

Levy is largely unknown in Detroit media and PR circles, having garnered his 20 years of automotive PR experience in Europe. For the last 18 months he has been an 'independent international communications and PR consultant' in New York City and Zurich.

Cervone had been with Chrysler for 13 years when the company merged with Daimler-Benz in 1998. Shortly thereafter, his boss, Steve Harris, was hired away by GM and Cervone followed.

Then in September of this year, Chrysler president Jim Holden lured him back as VP. But on November 17, the German management ousted Holden.

Cervone's forced resignation came the next business day.

Detroit's media agreed that Cervone's short tenure was no reflection on his abilities. 'The new Chrysler Group CEO (Dieter Zetsche) simply wanted his own PR chief, especially one with European experience,' said one close observer.
