Describe the company you work for

We are a Houston-based, Houston-owned full-service PR firm with a ten-person staff. Our primary philosophy is: Do you want it tomorrow - or do you want it right?

Tell us something interesting about your agency

President and Mrs. George Bush visited our agency one day while we were holding a client meeting.

President Bush surprised everyone by poking his head in the room, saying 'Hello', and then playfully turning out the lights.

What is your proudest moment?

(RN) My daughter, Kara. (PR) Producing the dedication day ceremony and handling global media relations for the launch of the George Bush Presidential Library & Museum - a one-time only event of historic scope.

How did you get into PR?

We both came to PR from political backgrounds.

The two professions have a lot of similarities. For instance, both are rooted in one constant: change.

What would you do if you didn't do what you do?

(RN) Own a restaurant or be a college professor. (PR) What I do now - write unpublished novels drawing on my White House and Washington experiences.

What would you like to change about the PR industry?

Remove that frown of bewilderment that often clouds the faces of those who have just been told they are in the presence of a PR practitioner. Let's face it, the majority of people don't understand or know what PR people do.

With which historical figure do you identify?

(PR) The three presidents for whom I've worked: Ford, Reagan and Bush. Plus, another ex-boss, James A. Baker III.

Who do you most look like?

(PR) During the years I worked for President Bush (1969-74), I was occasionally greeted by: 'You look like your boss - you have the same hairline.' (Enough of the Bush obsession already!

- Ed)

What are your favorite films?

(RN) All time favorite: The Sound of Music.

(PR): The Red Shoes, The Best Years of Our Lives.

What will be the next big thing to hit PR?

It will be that some of us are not necessarily willing to be influenced by 'the next big thing to hit PR.' The Edsel was once 'the next big thing.'
