NEW YORK: Gus Weill, the new CEO of PR21, has already made his mark by announcing an aggressive expansion plan.

As part of his endeavor, PR21 will open new offices in Washington, DC, Southern California and Europe next year, as it works to grow from a niche tech PR firm to a full-service agency.

The firm was initially conceived by owner Richard Edelman as a conflict shop for Edelman PR.

'PR21 is a full-service PR agency, and a rapidly growing one,' Weill said, predicting revenues of roughly dollars 20 million for this year.

The agency ranked 56th among US firms last year, with annual income of dollars 7 million, compared to dollars 3.5 million in 1998.

The marketplace still tends to think of the agency as a technology specialist, Weill said, but it has been growing its IR and financial communications capabilities, as well as beginning to take on health care-related work.

Weill, 38, had been working on the Citigroup account at Burson-Marsteller before taking his new assignment at PR21 (PRWeek, November 6). Prior to that, for four-and-a-half years, he headed Burson's corporate and financial practice.
